Welcome to the Sundial Cloud Service

Sundial's Cloud Service provides revenue optimisation and SCADA services to renewable power plants.

As part of this service, it provides dashboards with plant telemetry, and alarm notifications in response to undesirable plant behaviour.

Alarms

Sundial provides clients with custom alarms, based on the needs of their plant. Alarm notifications can be sent via e-mail and/or PagerDuty. Sundial recommends the use of PagerDuty for all mission-critical alarms.

E-mail Notification

For each of our clients, Sundial sends alarm notification e-mails to a configured list of recipients. The recipient list is configured by the Sundial team. If you want to create or amend your recipient list, please send an e-mail to support@sundial.energy

PagerDuty

PagerDuty provides rich functionality for alarm notifications, including:

  • On-call schedules
  • Repeating alerts
  • Multiple notification channels
  • Escalation paths

PagerDuty offers a generous free service tier, which is suitable for small plants with only a few operators. Paid tiers are available for larger teams.

PagerDuty provides extensive documentation. See this guide to get started.

To use PagerDuty with Sundial, first create a service (or use the default service that comes pre-configured with a new account). Next, configure that service with an Events API v2 integration (documentation can be found here). Obtain the integration key from PagerDuty, and send it to support@sundial.energy. The Sundial team will configure your account to provide alerts via PagerDuty.

Clients can use PagerDuty's Dynamic Notification feature to control notification behaviour based on incident severity.

Sundial alarm severity gets mapped to PagerDuty severity levels as follows:

Sundial Severity PagerDuty Severity
CRITICAL critical
MAJOR error
MINOR warning
WARNING warning
INDETERMINATE info
